How to Stain Natural Gourds for Fall

Hey there! Do y’all have Fall Fever yet? I know that we do. We’ve been enjoying football, pumpkin spice lattes and breaking out our Fall decor.

We recently shared a Fall Tablescape and some of you had questions about our natural gourds. The most asked question was "How did you get your gourds so pretty"? Well, we're going to show you how.

First, you need gourds in there natural state. They can be found at farmers markets, antique shops or from online shops.

We stain the gourds...now, I know a lot of you are asking "Why would you do that?" Well, in our opinion the stain enhances the natural beauty and color of the gourd - in essence making it look even better.

We just used a paper towel and began wiping the stain over the entire gourd.

This just needs a very thin layer of stain. With a clean paper towel wipe off all excess stain. Drying time is very quick.

Here you can see a great comparison of before and after.

We repeated this process on all three:

After the guards were dry, we gave a light coat of clear paste wax to each.

Ginger Jinette, Yes they were dry..They were completely dry. I have been working with gourds on and off for a few years and this was the first time I had ever had a birdhouse mold.
