Home made Chalk paint made with anything but calcium bicarbonate is NOT chalk paint! Plastter of pairs paint it hardens the next day and you throw away what you did not use, wasted $$$$

I want to paint my bedroom furniture (witch is very dark wood) an off white color. Should I leave the tops of dresser and end tables the original color?
