    I think that tool @TINA was asking about is a MORTISE and TENON JIG--this is used to bore the holes for the round ends of the logs to go into; there is also a jig that shapes and sizes the ends of the logs to round sections sized to slide into the holes. See how the ends of the round pieces protrude from the larger log framing? A very old and strong method of joining wood with either round or square holes.
