How to Paint an Exterior Door

Exterior doors are subjected to a lot of abuse from both the elements and the people who live in the house. Over time, they may lose their appearance and become looking rather dull. If this is the case with your home's front door, then you should consider repainting it. The process itself is quite easy. All you have to do is follow these guidelines.
The first thing that you need to do is remove the hardware and hinges. Using a screwdriver and a pair of pliers, take the handles out of the door. Once this is done, cover the glass (if any) with painter's tape.
In order to ensure proper bonding with the paint, you need to clean the door thoroughly. Use a mixture of warm water and dish-soap to scrub off all dirt, dust and debris from the surface. Allow the door to dry properly, and then sand it over using a fine-grit sandpaper.
Apply primer on the surface using a foam roller. The primer will strengthen the bond between the surface and the paint.
