Anthropologie Bamboo Inlay Frame Knock Off

I love to shop online. Most of my shopping consists of finding expensive things that I love and then trying to figure out a cheaper way to make it myself. It's the old story of champagne taste on a beer budget.
One of my favorite stores to shop at is Anthropologie. I love just about everything, from their from clothes to their home decor.
I saw these pretty Bamboo Inlay Gallery Frames for $24, and I loved them.
I had this frame that I bought for 50 cents at a yard sale a few weeks back, and I figured I would try my hand at getting that same Anthro look.
My first dilemma was where to find tape that narrow. The smallest painter's tape I have ever used is around an inch wide, which was wider than what I was needing.

I thought about just cutting painter's tape down the middle, but then I thought that sounded like too much work.

I went to Michael's and asked for the type of tape I needed, and they sent me to the art section where they had artists tape but it was $18! Forget that!

So then I found this 3 pack of polka-dotted crafting tape on sale for $1.99. I had no idea if it would keep the paint from bleeding through though, but I decided to give it a shot.

I used FrogTape to tape off the inner square, and then taped off the stripes.

I then painted over the tape with Plaster Paint in Native Stone. It took 3 coats to get it all covered. I usually peel off painters tape when my projects are still wet, but this time I decided to let it dry first.

I had no idea what to expect when I peeled off the tape since this tape really isn't made as a paint barrier.

Miraculously it worked! No bleeding at all!

I was really happy how it turned out!

Theirs was $24, and mine was only $2.50! Plus theirs was only a 46 and mine was a 57.
