Color Your World (Or Just Your Pumpkin) With Crayons

Ditch the knife and skip the paint. When you decide to decorate your pumpkins for Halloween this year, reach for a Crayola pack instead. If you don’t want to spend your dough on crayons at a craft store, snoop around your junk drawers. If you have kids in the house, chances are there are a few half-used magenta or teal crayons floating around!
First, gather your supplies. You’ll need: One large pumpkin (we used white but classic orange works, too), 10-15 crayons, trash bags or newspaper, hair dryer, and fast-drying glue.
1. Remove all the labels from your crayons and break them in half. You don’t need the entire crayon to get a colorful pumpkin!
2. Prepare your craft area. Melted crayons get messy, so cover your area with trash bags or newspaper. Now you’re all set to decorate.

3. Line your crayons up around the stem of your pumpkin. It helps to point the crayons towards the ground so that they naturally drip down the sides of the pumpkin. Then glue them into place.
4. Now, apply heat directly onto the crayons with your hair dryer. If you’re in a hurry, go full blast, but if you’re inside and worried about splattering wax, keep your hair dryer on low. It takes a little bit longer for the wax to melt, but will save you time when you’re cleaning up.

5. If some of your colors bleed together or pool at the stem, you can always melt a second layer overtop the first. Remember, this is abstract art. Just have fun!
