Self-watering Planter

I have really appreciated my original Really Raised Bed for starting transplants and nurturing tender plants I get in the mail. But these beds must be watered frequently to keep the soil from drying out.
I decided to make a self-watering raised bed and it has been a rousing success!
I have directions for making your own self-watering, really raised bed at http://www.walterreeves.com/how-to-archive/self-watering-planter/.

What a great idea. I'll have to talk to my BIL who is the carpenter guy around here. Thanks for sharing.

As far as I can tell, the wood sits in the water. I don't like that idea. Gardening Australia site has a better idea. Everything is exactly the same, but they used foam boxes which we can get here, then instead of using the wood/cups/plastic base, you can use hydroponic pebbles, other pebbles (I used river pebbles and charcoal). Then you line your container with garden liner, or me, I had some shade cloth laying around, so i used that. Add your soil, done!
