ASCP and Dark Wax

Jill F
by Jill F
I recently painted a chair and a small side table with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I used the dark wax on the table and I love the stuff! I could easily go overboard and start putting dark wax on everything 'cause it's just so much fun to use!

I have added some mineral spirits in a small container with the dark wax and it goes a long, long way!! If u dont use it all, just put the top on, and it keeps a good while!! Good job!!

S O, so pretty Jill! I have a paint fettish! 50 Shades of ANY COLOR gets me euphoric. I love everything about painting...even the prep cause it's kinda like foreplay (lol) then once paint and brush is in hand, oh goodness am I happy. Often when off with daughter, she catches me not listening, ask what you thinking about and I say "just can't wait to get home and get in the paint... AND I HAVE A NEW BRUSH!" What's the diff between this wax and stain. Does ASCP dry faster, harder and have a have a flat finish? Do you have to clear coat with satin? Exactly why is CP such a hot item these days? Smoother? Sanding unnecessary? Been wanting to try her paint but trying to make do with SO MUCH paint and stain.

@Gloria Sheldon Chalk paint typically does not require prepping by sanding or stripping. I actually don't use ASCP anymore. I use Paint Couture which is a NO VOC acrylic paint that is better than chalk paint. chalk paint goes on smoothly but will need sanded lightly once dry to get it butter smooth to the touch. The dark wax is a wax not a stain. You use it for antiquing the look of your piece. You can us a poly to cover the chalk paint instead of wax but chalk paint is always going to need a finish of some kind. If you don't put a finish on it anything that touches it is going to stain it or mark it up and you won't get it to wash off.
