Budget Friendly Ideas For Decorating Your Banister For Christmas

Easy
I quite enjoy decorating our staircase banister for Christmas every year. You can buy ready–made garland that has an assortment of its own embellishments but I find it can be quite pricey and the garland can look quite skimpy.

So over the years I have created my own garland with my own personal touches.
I start with basic evergreen greens and add cluster lights. I use narrow gift wrap ribbon to attach it to the banister. The roll I bought at the dollar store will last for years.
I made my own bows made from wire edged ribbon. I also made my own sprays from gold and red ornament balls and silk poinsettias. I buy floral bushes and cut them apart. It's a lot more budget friendly to do it this way compared to buying individual flowers.
That's what I did with the large red poinsettias that you see too! The banister looks gorgeous lit up a night!
I also had fun making large bows from red deco mesh, wired edged ribbon and strings of beads.
I can’t give you a total cost for how much it cost to create this Christmas banister garland because I have been adding to it every year. But I did buy everything on sale, or with a coupon, at the dollar store and even a few things from the thrift store.

Did you know there are two ways to spell banister/bannister? Which way do you spell it?

Wouldn't green pipe cleaners work as well as the ribbon to attach the garland to the banisters? I found that the ribbon would sometimes slip and the garland would slid awkwardly on the railing. Please share your thoughts.

I did something very similar last year but put everything at the base of the railing, on the floor of the step if that makes sense...so you could still hold the railing as you were going up and down the stairs. the reflection of the lights on the wood floor/steps was pretty. My question - any ideas for poinsettia garland? Changing up my theme next time...thanks!
