Oval-Framed Vintage Road Maps

Easy
Maps in oval frames are really eye-catching- something about the oval shape makes it look like a port hole into a past trip, a favorite destination, or future plans! Give thrifted or antique oval frames a splashy makeover and then use them to encase a snippet of a vintage road map.
Start with a humdrum frame- I found this at the thrift store for $5.
Deconstruct the frame by removing the backing and glass.
Then, use the glass to trace out the piece of the map that you want to showcase!
Since vintage road maps often have great colors, choose a coordinating shade for your frame. I like spray paint that has the primer in it already.
Isn't that great? And the ornate gesso frames really look snappy in bright, happy colors.
