Holiday Button Art

We wanted to create some art for our living room for the holidays but didn't have a big budget to do it. Luckily, we had all the supplies around the house to build a beautiful JOY sign for less than $10!
Here is our JOY sign hanging in our living room. We specifically chose to use turquoise and red so it would match all of our other decor in the room.
We started with these three cabinet door frames. It would have been much simpler to do this project if we had old cabinet doors with the panels still in them - but we didn't, so we used what we had!
To create the panel, I painted some scraps of sheetrock with a matching blue paint and then wrapped the sheetrock with burlap. Again, plywood would have been a better option but we didn't have any - good thing we had some sheetrock lying around because it worked just fine!
To get the letters onto the burlap, I printed my letters out from my computer, cut them out and outlined them onto the burlap with a chunky marker.
To fill in the letter, I used metallic acrylic paint.
I hot glued each of the buttons onto the painted letter. Not the most exciting task in the world!
We attached the three frames together from behind with some hardware and hung them with French cleat hardware, since the whole piece of art was quite heavy.
