Prepare Your Home’s Exterior and Interior Before Selling Your House

When the time comes to sell your home, it’s important to make sure it’s in the best shape possible. From pictures that will be published online to people seeing your house for the first time, the current condition will have a big impact on how many potential buyers are interested, as well as how much your house ends up selling for.

Curb appeal plays a big role in making sure that buyers have a positive reaction upon seeing your house in person for the first time. If you notice that the paint looks less than ideal in any of these areas, applying touch-up paint can make a significant difference.

The next area to assess is your lawn. For grass that doesn’t look very vibrant, fertilizer and consistent watering should bring it back to life. Be sure to cut back any shrubs that have gotten overgrown, as well as see if there are any spots where it makes sense to plant a few extra flowers.

If there are any visibly broken shingles on your roof, it’s worth replacing them. The same is true for taking care of cracks in your driveway. Finally, if you have a fence in your backyard, applying a fresh coat of paint or stain is the best way to make it look like new.

Interior

By taking care of the exterior tips we covered above, potential buyers will be very excited when they walk inside your home. To keep that feeling going, make sure that your house is fully clean from top to bottom. If you are going to continue living in your home while it’s being shown, don’t forget to always pick up stray belongings like shoes prior to any buyers coming for a look.

If there are any cracks and holes in your walls, repairing them should be fairly easy but effective. And if you want to change a room by adding new paint, just remember to apply primer before you start painting.

In the bathrooms, apply new caulking around all the sinks and tubs. For a toilet that’s been acting up, it’s worth getting it fixed so you won’t have to worry about a possible buyer getting concerned if they test it. Finally, be sure to get your attic in the best shape possible in case anyone decides to take a peek up there.
