Silver leafing foyer table

Christine Marien
by Christine Marien
I bought this little table at Goodwill in July for $12. The inlay is stretched leather and has seen some better days. Originally I was just going to paint it, but the wood really is quite pretty.... and I'm still not sure what color I'm ultimately going for in here... so I figured a nice decorative accent would be a good way to go.
I was surprised how easy the process was! Overall I am really pleased with the end product.

I have a repurpose furnature shop and these tables are not in big demand. They are plentiful in my part of Texas and people don't line up for them. And when we do get one it isn't expensive. So don't worry that you have made a boo boo.

I can't really tell from the photo but did you retain the narrow "border" (between the wood and the leather). If not, I think that would look nice and is the photo making the silver section look very bright? You did a nice job but have you thought of applying an antique medium on top of the silver part to "soften" it a little. If it is quite bright and you are happy, then that's all that matters. I enjoy playing around with "gold" and "silver" leaf. They are fun, aren't they?!!
