DIY Command Central Office Message Board

Step 1. Decide what size board you want and then tape off a frame 4" wider and paint a pop of color that will coordinate with your decor. I like using FrogTape for cleaner edges.
Step 2. Peel away tape and then attach galvanized sheet metal cut to your specification by your local supplier. I used flat head screws with washers that lay on top for a finished look.( Make sure your supplier pre drill holes in the corners for easy installation.)
Step 3. Now it's time to have some fun making accessories for your board! Letters of the Months. I used wood letters that I purchased from Michaels and applied gift wrapping paper with Modge Podge I also added a magnet to the backs.
Step 4. Numbers for the days on the calendar. I purchased glass beads ( the kind used for vase fillers flat on one side). And then printed numbers out and cut into circles and applied with Modge Podge on flat side. Numbers facing up so you can see in bubble and then applied round magnets found at Michaels.
Step 5. Clips for papers, pictures or maybe a quote for the day. :) I found these clothes pins already with decorative paper, but you can Modge Podge paper if you like. And then I added magnets to one side.
Step 6. Need something to store all your great accessories! I used Maison jars. I used the round insert in the lid as a template to cut circles of scrapbook paper for tops. Added twine with tags for labels and your done. Aren't they charming.
Step 7. Plan the layout of items you're adding to your board. I purchased the clock, light, magnet notepad and plastic bins from Ikea. The shadow box frames ,colorful magnetic tins and peg board system with wire baskets are from Michaels. And the removable peel and stick calendar is from Staples, Martha Stewart brand.
Step 8. Start to attach. Note: I purchased heavy duty magnets from Home Depot for shelving, but once I put item in the bins the weight made them slide down. So you will have to install with screws even the clock and frames.
And here is the final product! What do you think? This was for a young girl on a swim team, so the shadow boxes are for her medals. But you can put any keepsake you wish.

Celia, this board really appeals to me since it is so colorful, organized, and useful. The only part that bothers me is the calendar, which is really attractive, but doesn’t have a place for items by date and doesn’t allow for the next month until the last day of the current month. BUt you put great imagination in adding all sorts of details. I would call this A quality work. Blessings! ☺️
