Kitchen Makeover Latin Style

One of my first home makeover projects was to tackle the knotty pine kitchen and add a Latin flare! No space is ever fully complete, but see where I am thus far.
When I first bought my home, this was what the kitchen, dining room, and hallway looked like - wall to wall knotty pine. This knotty pine is beautiful but not my personal style. My dad and a few others were not keen on me painting the pine, but I couldn't take drowning in a sea of brown in one of my favorite spaces - the kitchen.
This is the other half of that space. Although this project was done a while ago, I have not touched the walls in the dining area. But, I can't say that I won't in the future (or take it down).
This too has to go (in due time). Beautiful, but too big for the space. Plus I don't have a wood stove nor do I plan to have one.
I worked on this space during my pre-blogging days so I don't have many images to share of the process. Note here: I primed all of the wood 2 or 3 times to seal the knots. Then I painted the walls with a terracotta paint color. The upper cabinets are painted "Eclipse" yellow and the lower cabinets are avocado green. My inspiration was some Mexican tiles I found on eBay. Also I cut the L-shaped counter off (which housed a cooktop stove) and replaced it with a stainless/black stove and microwave hood. The refrigerator was replaced too. Later, I replaced the dishwasher with a black one to match the refrigerator.
My dad and I put down vinyl tiles years ago. One day I would love to have ceramic tiles and wood laminate in the other space instead of the carpet.
This is the final look to date. I had a few of the cabinet doors cut down so that I could place pretty items above. Recently the in-wall oven died, so I'm thinking that that space was probably originally a pantry. I'd like to reclaim that space as a pantry so I don't have to keep bending down to get pantry items out of the lower cabinets.
I can't wait to replace the countertops one day, but for now I'm satisfied. I hope you enjoyed viewing this project.
