DIY Wooden Dog or Baby Gate

The door to our sunroom is freakishly narrow. So narrow that we found it literally impossible to buy a pre-made swinging gate that would fit there. We priced out having one custom made, but it was way out of our budget. So my husband designed and built one himself, and, after seeing how easy and inexpensive it is, we'll never go back to buying pre-made gates again!
Here's what we had there before we built the gate. Ugly and a paint to use, since we had to take it all the way out of the doorway or step over all the time.
Here's the diagram he came up with; it's a very simple design that will blend into any decor style, and it's made out of super cheap 2x2 pine posts. We spent around $15 on all the materials.
It took us a long time to come up with a latching system that worked well, but we finally found this sliding glass door latch, and it works perfectly.
We've had the gate up for a good while now, and it's holding up very well and has worked beautifully for us. Full plan and tutorial here:
