Mossy Indoor Fountain

In keeping with the woodland theme in my living room, I decided to make an indoor fountain using some moss, rocks and an existing fountain. I love the light and the sound of the noise it makes. It reminds me that spring is just around the corner!
You could do this kind of makeover on any indoor fountain because the main part is hidden. I happened to have a store bought candle fountain, but I see inexpensive little fountains at garage sales, Dollar Stores and thrift stores all the time.
You'll need a container big enough to hold whatever fountain you choose to use. For a flush look, make sure that the top of the fountain is level with the top of the container. In this case, a layer of gravel in the bottom raised the fountain to the correct level.
To cover the top of the planter box and hide the fountain, I used some dark plastic screen. I just traced a circle on top of the screen and cut it out. (Chalk marker is a great way to trace anything onto a dark surface.)
I found this moss ribbon to be very easy to work with to cover the top portion of my fountain because it allowed me to make fewer cuts and the edges were straight, but you could use sheet moss.
A little tacky glue worked perfectly to adhere the ribbon moss to the plastic screen. You can embellish the top any way you choose. I just used some reindeer moss, twigs and river stones.
This fountain was so easy to make! Most of the work was just in figuring out how to put it all together. Now I'll probably never pass up an ugly fountain in a thrift store again!

very nice... so this fountain doesn't need to be plugged in, or holes drilled for cords thru planter?
