When I was asked to try out Modern Masters' beautiful metallic paints, I was very excited and couldn't decide which project I was going to take on first! Their paints can be used on flower pots, furniture, walls, frames - you name it. I had many ideas, but finally decided on taking on painting our adult daughter's headboard. We had redecorated her room a couple of years ago, but had yet to do something fun with her single bed headboard. Now was my chance! See what fun products they have: http://modernmasters.com/default.asp
Here is what my daughter's boring, old headboard looked like before. It needed something, some kind of pizzazz! Modern Masters' metallic paints seemed like the perfect choice.
I primed the headboard in a colour similar to the two metallic paints I chose to use; Champagne and Oyster. It was hard to pick our favourites, but my daughter and I settled on these two. Check out their large choice of colours here: http://modernmasters.com/products.asp?mode=lp_palette&lid=17&gid=153
I decided to do the outer frame of the headboard in Champagne and the inside panel was going to be done in Oyster.
This is after painting two coats of the Champagne metallic paint. With two coats of Champagne, I could still see streaks, brush marks and transparency, so I applied another coat for an even look. I used a roller for the flat frame and a brush for the insides where the roller couldn't reach. A roller definitely does a more beautiful job, than using a paint brush.
Ah, that's better! This is after a third and final coat of Champagne. Loving it!
After three coats of Champagne on the frame of the headboard.
Three coats of Oyster, a more transparent paint, on the inside panel and this headboard is done. I loved the lusciousness of the paints from Modern Masters, especially as I poured them into a rolling pan. They looked good enough to eat! LOL
Close up of finished project... or so I thought!
This would be a finished project if my daughter hadn't suggested I stencil the inside panel of the headboard. I said "Okay, why not?".
Some of the stencilling done, using the same Champagne metallic paint I used on the framing.
And voila, here it is! It looks great in my daughter's room!
I had a fun time using Modern Masters products and would definitely recommend their matte metallic paints for fun projects that need some pop and jazzing up. This does the trick beautifully! Expect to apply at least three coats to most items, though two of the more opaque paints they carry might be enough. I'm very curious about their line of Metal Effects paints, and after seeing some projects using those here at Hometalk, it's got me thinking of trying them out.
