Two years ago I came up with a renovation plan for our small 1957 muted bubblegum pink bathroom, and I was determined to do it myself. The plan was to remove a good bit of the white with pink veins tile from the walls, get rid of the fake oak vanity, the pink toilet, pink tub, and ugly white ceramic tile floor. I wanted to expand about 6-7 inches into the hallway linen closet so I could install a wood shelving area, while making the tiny room feel larger. Also wanted the door moved out about a foot to be flush with the hallway linen closet, again to add more space.
Finally about 8 1/2 weeks ago the demo began. My only regret is that I didn't take more before pictures. Here are a few pics of the beginning of the renovation just to give you an idea of why it all needed to go. Following those are the pictures of the final results. I had to have some help with the wall and the door being moved, and installation of the new toilet. I also decided to keep the tiled tub surround and the cast iron tub, because it would have been so expensive to take it out. I had the tub and tile professionally resurfaced. The rest was all my work on weekends only. I have to say, it was hard, but so fun and so rewarding. Not bad for an almost 56 year old grandma's first renovation, if I do say so myself. Went for a bold accent color, even on the ceiling just because the colors looked great together- and, why not?! I like to call the design of my new bathroom, rustic-modern!
Beginning of demo. Wall tiles are down.
Pink tub and white with pink tile!
Now, the fun really began.
The reclaimed wood window frame was fun to turn into the medicine cabinet door!
Bead board and glass tiles.
Painted the upper walls a soft gray semigloss. Left the original textured walls.
Barn wood look tile for new floor.
Once the gray paint on the walls and the flooring was down, time for the fun color!!
Purple ceiling and newly resurfaced tiles.
Way out of my comfort zone using purple, and painting the ceiling a bold color, but I am so happy I went for it. Almost time for the fun part- decor!
New mirror and light fixture.
It was so worth having the tub and tile resurfaced by a professional. In one day the tub and tile went from muted 50 year old pink, to glistening, clean, polished white.
Love these new inset shelves.
More reclaimed wood.
New vanity
Window curtains for shower curtains. Why not?
So thrilled with the end result. Still need to stain the door and this project will be a wrap!

Nice job...who did you contact to resurface your tub and tile...I would like to do the same myself as we have a pink tub with yellow tiles. What kind of company would I need to call?
