Bright and Cheerful Industrial Easter Basket Centerpiece

I have been wanting to do a table top centerpiece for our kitchen table for Easter for awhile... last year I ran out of time and so this year I was determined to make it happen. While at Hobby Lobby, I saw a table display of industrial wire baskets and galvanized metal pieces. It was there that I decided I wanted to use a wire basket for the centerpiece.

I knew I wanted some 'grass' tied with a pretty bow inside the basket. I came across a plaid bow in beautiful bright spring colors... I knew these colors would match some of the plastic Easter egg colors! I decided to spruce up the plastic eggs with some ribbons tied around where you'd normally see their crease. I have quite a stash of ribbons and I selected colors from my ribbon stash at home, which saved me some money. I also threw in some natural colored Spanish moss to line the button of the basket.

I just really love how a little bit of ribbon can really dress up an otherwise boring plastic Easter egg. I also think of this metal basket as a basket you would collect eggs in on the farm and it just blends perfectly with the eggs.

And. this ribbon... it has a touch of green in the plaid, which goes perfectly with the green monkey grass that it is tied around.

I love the fresh and sharp cut of the grass on the bottom, almost as though it is a wild bouquet with a ribbon around it.

Line your basket with the Spanish moss.

I bought two sections of monkey grass and tied them together with a rubber band and twine and then used a pruner (gardening tool) and cut the bottom so the grass became 'loose' and not secured together on the end by a base. This resulted in a sharp edge for each piece of grass. You can leave the rubber band and/or twine tied around the middle, because you will later cover it with the bow.

To make the bow, I used my Bowdabra, of course! It makes it SO easy to make a perfect bow! Tie your bow onto your monkey grass.

Then it was time for my favorite part of the craft, decorating the plastic eggs with ribbon! I just cut a strip of ribbon that was as long as the perimeter of the egg. I then put a strip of hot glue on the back side of the ribbon and rolled the egg around it to adhere it. So easy!
