Beadboard Bathroom Re-do

Here, my client wanted to do away with the wall tile surrounding her bathroom and replace it with beadboard. The only solution, imo, was to remove the wallboard & tile and built up from there. For this installation, the beadboard was inserted inside a frame comprised of 1x stock and the seams were then covered with trim.
I got this idea about framing in the beadboard from Next Day Moulding
Had to install a beefier door casing to match the thickness of the new rails.

If you search the web for beadboard bath installations, they never mention that you really need to remove the vanity to get it right.
This shot shows the chairrail with bead above.
Returned the moulding into the wall at this end before the bathtub.

I have started to take off the old tiles from my bathroom, but there is alot of adhesive still on the drywall. Did you put the beadboard on over the old drywall after removing the tiles, or did you remove all the bottom half of it and replace it with new drywall then beadboard?

Where did you find the faux headboard. I am having trouble finding a type that will hold up to bathroom moisture?

  • I figured that popping the tiles off would have left a very rough surface. Much quicker to remove the wall along with the tile, then replace w/ sheetrock to achieve the desired depth. Gluing over tile was not ideal to install trim with tight joints for the long haul.

I love the look. I am currently adding beadboard in a small bathroom. What is used for the top chairrail and small shelf?
