Vintage Waterfall Dresser Makeover
A young man in my neighborhood was moving and had to get rid of a vintage waterfall dresser that he had used since he was a boy. The piece clearly had sentimental value to him, but he needed to let it go. I offered to take it and and told him I would restore it.
His cat had given this dresser a run for its money. Lots of scratches on the top and front. You can really see the scratches in this photo.
I really wanted to save the wood veneer on the top and on the drawers, but wasn't sure I could get all the scratches out. i stripped the drawers and top, and could see that most of the more superficial scratches were gone. I let it dry and then sanded the wood with 220 grit sandpaper and was able to remove the remaining scratches.
I stained the top and drawers with General Finishes gel stain in candlelite. I painted the sides with lamp black milk paint. I then sealed the entire piece with GF high performance top coat.
I shined up the original Art Deco pulls with Brasso and the piece was done! For all the details and more photos of this makeover, please check out my blog.
