How to Hide Your A/C

Our air conditioner sits on our back patio right next to a sliding glass door. It is loud and unsightly. We wanted a solution that would allow us to hide it, but after talking to our air conditioner service guy, we knew we COULD NOT put up any sort of solid partition. Even lattice or plants would impede the air flow to the unit, decrease efficiency and put excess wear and tear on the a/c.
That is when I came up with the idea of a louvers, which angled upward. This design blocks your line of sight to the air conditioner, while still allowing air to flow up and into the air conditioner. By making sure the boards were spaced far enough apart and angled upward, as well as keeping the screen far enough away from the a/c itself (in our case the manufacturer recommended 12 inches) we were able to find a solution! Our A/C service guy approved!
A louvered design (and installing it the proper distance from the A/C itself) allows for you to hide your air conditioner without disrupting the air flow to the unit.
The A/C before. Loud and ugly.
Painting the louvers before assembly will save a lot of time and frustration.
A simple post support allows for the screen to be placed on concrete. Pressured treated lumber ensures a long life.

If lattice impedes the air flow, how does Louvers not do that?

Oh my gosh...my 20 year-old son had a little dinosaur outfit (shorts and shirt) very similar to this little guy's when he was about the same age. What a sweet memory! I like your air conditioner screen, too!
