Goodbye to Our 80's Family Room

We loved the location of the house but the dated interior had to go especially the huge beam in the ceiling and dated built-ins.
Before - 1980's revisited
We hired someone to remove the wood beam and insert a steel beam in the ceiling. We also replaced the dated sliding doors and textured ceiling. Then the fun started!
After - so much better!
Eliminating the beam opened up the room and adding a gas fireplace gave the space a focal point. We ordered extra doors when we got our kitchen cabinets and used them in the new built-ins. The cabinet on the left now houses the TV and other electronics.
The floors were in great shape but everything else had to go! We saved the wood from the old built-ins and reused some of it for the new cabinets.
Now the room seems brighter and is a fun place to hang out. I used chalk paint to paint the dining room chairs to help give the room a calm, beachy feel.
The herringbone tile pattern helps to make the fireplace surround more interesting.
The TV is hidden behind the hinged doors.
The new space makes me smile every time I walk into the house.
