Make the Best Use of the Space Under Your Counter With DIY Shelves!

As a busy family of 5 we always need more storage space. This counter opened to our breakfast room, but nobody ever sat here. So we DIY'd kitchen shelves using IKEA Billy Bookcases to create extra storage for dishes and decorative items, conveniently located right next to the kitchen table.
Using the pre-fabricated bookshelves saved time and energy for this project all we had to do was fasten them to the back of the peninsula and trim them out.
Here is a quick shot to show the overall layout of the room. We have another island (in the back above) and that island is where we have barstools and sit. The space behind the sink is really too narrow to serve or anything as well so we have never had seating here.
This is how it looks afterward.
