How I Steampunked a Nerf Gun

I planned a Steampunk "Stopping Time..Forever Thirty-Nine" birthday party for myself last year and transformed my son's Nerf gun into a great Steampunk Costume Prop!
I started by spray-painting a Maverick Rev 6 Nerf Gun with bronze Metallic paint.
Next, I aged it by rubbing black paint all over the gun with a dry cloth to give it a worn look. I then lightly brushed silver metallic paint in accent areas. Once the paint dried, I added metal gears and miscellaneous hardware on both sides of the gun with super glue.
I then added a strip of pleather strapping to the top of the gun and added brads and buckles for embellishment.
Lastly, I decoupaged a piece of black lace to the handle for a touch of femininity.

Did you prime and sand before painting? Or did you just paint it as is?
