When my boyfriend's son moved into our house, his one request was the he wanted an awesome Minecraft room. So, an awesome Minecraft room he was given. The first step in making a little boy's dream bedroom is to find the perfect bed--but what if you can't find the perfect bed? Then, make one. We made this DIY Fort Bed and customized it with every single detail that we wanted. It came out better than we could have ever imagined.
First, you'll need to purchase the blueprints to the bed, which are available through Palmetto Bunk Beds (link on my blog). The blueprints were only $25, so believe me, it's definitely worth it. Then, head to Home Depot and get all of the wood you need (measurements are included in the blueprints). You can either bring the wood home and cut it yourself, or have Home Depot do it for you.
Then, we sanded and stained the wood. If you buy pre-stained wood or if you want to go with the natural wood look, then you can skip this step.
When the wood was dry we applied a coat of Polyurethane and smoothed it over with steel wool. The result was beautifully finished and smoothed wood. Next, we sub-assembled sections in our garage so that it would be easier to fully assemble once we got to the the bedroom.
Then, we assembled!
It was Stephen's idea to two-tone the bed with darker wood on the frame and the accents, which I think added a whole other level to the beauty of the bed. We added Minecraft accessories and extra little decorations all around the bed to really personalize it.
Now, the best part: the fort! We put awesome lights in there so that Grant could still play in there when it got dark. We fully support nurturing a child's imagination, and having an awesome fort area has proved to do just that.
As you can see, the kids love the fort area!
I hope you love the fort bed as much as we do--for full details, head to my blog. Also, the full Minecraft room reveal will be happening next week, so make sure you follow along at www.therusticwillow.com to stay tuned for more DIY tutorials and room reveals :-)

What a fun time you’re little boy will have

awesome boys rooms / fort/ bed

years of memories un the making

I made something similar many many years ago for my boys playroom , it was cubby /treehouse build with ball pit, side tent, slide , ship wheel, tunnel, 2 hammocks and a double bed sleeping nook.

They had years of fun, creative play, sleepovers at ours.

Ohhh how quickly they grow up 😢

the only thing I would change on your build -is the stairs , I would make them thicker for there easier climbing , especially at night when they are halfway asleep and need to use the bathroom . , or look at adding a slide( slide slide - I would add it to the head of the bed) and leave the stairs for going up ( I would have the the stairs at the foot of the bed)

    Great job !!! 👍👍👍
