Mudroom Shoe Storage

After looking at dozens of pre-fab shoe storage ideas I decided crates would be a casual and much more frugal way to organize our mudroom. These are from Michaels. I left them natural and painted the wall behind, but you could paint the crates any color you like. Just drill them into the studs!

what do you do with the wet muddy tennies and boots you get in the country? Can I still use this idea without mud sliding down the wall?

OK the ideas are great but if you have kids with lots of shoes you still have to get over the hurdle of getting them to put the shoes away. Of course you can cut the clutter if you put them away, but I bet you already have a closet and it has a floor that you could put your shoes on if you put them away.
