Making a paint by numbers type portrait is fun and easy! Great fun
Aw Samson, he's adorable, isn't he? Forever I have wanted a painting of my sweet girl Hailey. Forever I just hadn't figured it out until I came across another blogger's post.
I made my own canvases as I've got three cute dogs to paint but you can purchase a pre-made one super easily at any craft store.
I used PhotoShop and Illustrator to create my image but don't panic -- on my blog I list several sites to check out where you can do the same for free. Come on over to Flipping the Flip at humboldtartdept.blogspot.com to read all the details along with a slew of other fun stories!
I printed out several sheets to get to my 18x24 canvas size then...
... trimmed and taped them together.
Using powdered charcoal, I smudged up the back side but you could just as easily use pencil.
I taped the image to the canvas and traced between all the colors using a sharp pencil.
Yes, it came out super confusing but keep the original photo nearby for reference as you go.
All that's left to do now is fill in the colors using acrylic paint. Instead of mixing colors, I purchased 2 oz. bottles in matching colors.
And voila, super duper adorably cute!
