Makeover: Cane Chairs and Tutorial

Waaaay back in June I found two great cane back chairs on Craigslist for an awesome price. The seller was so anxious to get them out of his basement he even delivered them right to my door. I have been hoarding these chairs in my stash ever since, part of me thinks I was waiting for inspiration (that's the story I'm sticking to). I himmed and hawed about what to do with these forEVER. I had several conversations with myself over the course of a few months. Eventually I found the perfect fabric and dove in.
After: Cane chairs painted glossy black and reupholstered with a modern geometric fabric.
Before: Cane chairs scored on Craigslist.

Do you know how to repair the cane backs, or know where I can find out? I have several dining room chairs in desperate need of repair, but know nothing about it.

Love it! Saw 2 exact chairs at a yard sale yesterday, but am trying to modernize a bit more, & get away from the antique look. Never thought about painting them! Wish now I had bought them. I usually never paint old things as they lose their original value, but these are beautiful!
