Taking in groceries yesterday I passed by one of my Forsythia and saw a Praying Mantis nest, well, 3 actually the one in the pick was the largest and easiest to photo. Don't know if they are old or this years batch but I sure do love when the babies hatch ! Scores of tiny little eating machines

So that's what these are. I find a lot of these when I do the spring clean up of my garden.....and I do have a lot of praying mantis. Thanks!

@Sherrie S ~ had to look up Vitex.... beautiful :) Useful medicinally too, interesting. I hope you have pods in your Vitex, mine was easy to spot due to no foliage on the shrub :) As Tammy said they will nest anywhere and the pod is usually about the size of a shooter marble or 50 cent piece ( yeah, I am that old lol ) I can expect mine to hatch around May, after the Forsythia has bloomed ( late March/April) and leafed out. They need a period of sustained warmth.... at least here in Jersey :)
