Before/After Modern and Bright Boy Room With Lots of DIYs!

This modern and bright boy room is the type of room that can grow with a kiddo. With fun DIYs including a closet loft and personalized magnetic map wall, what's not to love?
The room didn't have a direction when we first moved in. We just couldn't seem to find what we wanted to do with it. After stumbling around a bit, we finally found our groove.
The day before we moved in, we ripped the wallpaper off and painted over that mauve.
Once we had it painted and some of the stuff moved in, we quickly realized that the paint color was dingy and our stuff thrown around the room wasn't going to work.

In 2014, the room started to evolve. I found a medical dresser (above) on Craigslist and gave it a facelift.
Habitat Restore had the metal bookcase (it was red there and looked like it was housed in a garage). After scrubbing and painting, it became the perfect storage piece in the room.
We built the closet loft earlier this year and that really sealed the deal for us. We were determined to get the room finished so that we could just enjoy the space.
After the loft came the personalized magnetic map wall. My son loves maps and always wants to know what street we are on or what part of town we are in. The map wall was a perfect way to incorporate his interests.
The yellow bookcase is another Habitat Find and actually another medical cabinet. Ha. Paint transformed it and it holds so much. It doesn't look like it but it's huge!

Modern bedding and a garden stool round out this side of the room.
Fun pops of color help the space feel cohesive.
Toy storage is a must in any kid's room. The black wire mimics the color of the rest of the furniture in the room.
There's plenty of space to play with toys in the floor. Our hope is that this is a space that can grow with our kiddo.
