I would sell the bunk beds and use the money to buy a queen size bed. No wear and tear trying to reconfigure the bunk beds, no larger mattresses to buy. -

Well, I'd sell the bunks and buy a trundle bed, but I'm not handy... I can craft stuff, but building stuff is a whole other thing. -

I personally would remove one side rail off both and connect the two to make one frame.
