Basement Makeover Edition
BEFORE: Help!
I was looking for sleek media center upgrade. I wanted something white and a way to hide all the cables. Get tutorial here
IKEA to the rescue
I found these narrow kitchen cabinets at IKEA and attached them to the wall. Get tutorial here
Time to hide those wires
We ran the wires behind the TV & into the cabinets and even through the cabinet dividers for more electronic storage space. Get tutorial here
The After!
We added a Pinewood project panel from Lowes to the top (stained in a color we love) and added doors. SO much better! Get tutorial here
Outdated to updated basement bar
The before. Better than nothing, but not my style AT ALL. Get tutorial here
Step 2: Install brick panelling
I went to Lowe's and bought faux paneling sheets for an easy installation. Get tutorial here
Step 3: Paint the "brick"
I wanted more of a farmhouse look, so I painted the paneling white. Get tutorial here
Step 4: Paint the bar top tiles
The tiles on top of the bar were in bad shape! I primed, painted and sealed with a strong top coat. Get tutorial here
The finished update!
We added some floating shelves, hardware and decor (of course!) and we're absolutely loving our new space! Get tutorial here
From Cellar to Media Room
We are lucky enough to have a basement, but it was just a dumping space and we were ready to reclaim our space Get tutorial here
Putting up the walls
We needed some professional construction to get the most out of our space Get tutorial here
A perfect tiny bathroom
We were even able to squeeze this powder room into the space! Get tutorial here
Our new media room
Yes, it's the same space! We're so happy with the way it turned out, and we've gained another room, too. Get tutorial here
A stained glass pond
Here's the before and after of our stairs. But today, this is the story of our stained glass pond we added to the steps! Get tutorial here
An empty alcove...
This empty space was just begging to be filled. I love stained glass, so we decided to do something a little different! Get tutorial here
Create your design
I drew out a design for my stained glass pond and had it enlarged and printed. Get tutorial here
Stained Glass 'Pond'
Once the pond started to come together, I glued it to a plywood board and installed over the steps. Get tutorial here

Hard to believe this was the same space as the before pic! Get tutorial here
DIY Crate Stools for Storage
Check out my most recent DIY project that turned crates into some of the most functional little things in my house! Get tutorial here
Clean & spray paint
I chose some bold colors for my stools but you can go more neutral if that works better in your space Get tutorial here
Cut foam to size
I bought a thick foam, and it to the size of the crates Get tutorial here
Plywood Seats
I cut plywood to fit over the tops of the crates, then covered with the foam & fabric. Use a staple gun to secure the fabric. Get tutorial here
Wooden frames for the seats
I wanted the seats to fit securely over the crates, so I added a wooden frame to each one. Get tutorial here
Here are the finished storage stools
They store all my kids' toys in the basement (a.k.a. the play room), but you can use them for all kinds of storage. Get tutorial here
