Hideous overhead fluorescent bathroom lighting! Any ideas?

We just bought a home, and in the master bathroom there is flourescent light tubing over the vanity.

So there are 2 separate lights. Tear the box down, get 2 new light fixtures and put them up. I don't have pictures but I did that in my mom's house in both baths.

It should be fairly easy to replace the florescent lighting with a more standard fixture...have you gotten up to see what is behind the box? Are you or your partner fairly comfortable with replacing electric fixtures? Are you ready to start a redo in this room or are you looking for a quick solution to the light fixture only? The reason I ask...not knowing what’s behind the fixture, it might mean having to do more “finishing” to the drywall etc and could be the start of what I call the trickle down effect. If you are not comfortable doing the electric yourself, you could get an electrician in to add more receptacles as well as replace the fluorescents. You’re quite right I think you have the beginnings of a wonderful retreat!
