The surround wall around my bath tub is old, and is coming lose from the wall. There are three pieces of the in all. I don't know what is behind theses pieces, or what I need to replace it with. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I would remove the surround - mainly to see if there is any mold behind them and you would have to do this if you were to tile - which I would do to update the bathroom.

Once you remove you can put a new surround up in it's place. If you don't want to go that route, you can put up tile board which comes in 4x8 sheets and is hung like paneling. Another way to go, and the one I would recommend, is to put cement board up and then tile the wall. You can get a white square tile that is self-spacing. It's great for a first time tile job. The only difficult part is cutting. We have an inexpensive tile saw that does a great job.
