Armoire To Custom Closet

Im new here to Hometalk but do look at it daily thru e mails and enjoy it and it does give me many ideas to do DIY ! So here is my latest project I decided to post for the first time. It is pretty advanced as you have to have a full workshop with many tools to do this job and muscles or a helper to do this project. If you have any questions please ask !

So I had an idea of giving my husbands closet a more organized make over and didnt want to spend any money if I could help it. I found a free huge armoire some one wanted to give away and got it unloaded of the truck as it was so heavy I couldnt move it till it was apart.

I then dismantled it and drew up some plans to make the closet.

This is my husbands closet I wanted to organize for him and so the fun begins !

So I took everything down and took the wire shelf down, filled holes and gave it all a fresh coat of paint.

So then I started by bringing the tow sides of the Armoire up stains and into my dining room which was in the next room of the closet being organized. Started measuring and cutting up all the other large pieces that came with the piece and brought them upstairs to then glue and nail together, thank God I had a small air nail gun !!

Then after it was finished I then lifted it up and put sliding coasters under the bottom and pulled thru the door and into place. I also had to take off the trim the floor boards to make a 2 ft section to put the piece in so it would bu up against the wall.

I then put on some scrap pieces of trim on the front of each shelf and the sides to make it looked finished and put the original top crown molding and bottom trim back on after shortening them. Attached the wood dowels and the wire rack on the top of either side. Then I gave it all 2 coats of fresh paint.

Then finally put all his clothes back in order ! We will see how long this will last though lol ! Good luck doing this as its pretty easy if you have the tools and strength to move these pieces and that some one gives you a free armoire !
