Neutral Union Jack and Autumn Vignette

Using a neutral color palette with the ever-popular, Union Jack design, makes this dresser a statement piece that is more cohesive with several design aesthetics!
This stately hepplewhite style dresser had superficial flaws, including burn marks on the top! So I gave it a classy makeover with the Union jack Design, using Annie Sloan Chalk paint in colors, French Linen, Old White and Country Gray.
Just to give you an idea, this was the before. It had a very red stain and many scratches and blemishes throughout, so don't let this picture fool you! But solid mahogany furniture is worth fixing up! The interiors were near perfect, which I sealed with Shellac to enhance their beauty!
I like to leave original hardware un-touched when I am able, and this style of hardware really adds to the regality of the piece!
I lightly distressed this piece, to smooth out the design, but also to control wear. I distress on the high points and edges, where it would naturally wear off over time.
For the vignette on top, I chose simple elements that were also neutral in tone: Cotton sprays, an old clock and bottle, a basket of dried hydrangeas, and a chalkboard with a fall quote.
I love hydrangeas in all their forms! But dried is especially appropriate this time of year!
I first did this Union Jack color palette on a similar dresser 2 years ago, which was the start of my blog and my first MMS feature! I've come a long way since then and I loved doing throwback to my first bit of success. This one is now headed across the country, to North Carolina!
