I found this sad looking fold down desk at the Mission shop . Some had done a horrible faux finish on it. Not even sure what look they were going for the color was just down right ugly . But they did use a good paint and it was a mess to get . I don't usually use stripper I like to sand the finish down but this puppy needed the heavy duty stripper.
This is how I found the poor thing . I could tell it was oak underneath that terrible faux finish . Still not sure the look they were going for . It looked like something out of a flood.
At one time I think there shelves and cubbies in there
After stripping off all that mess I went to work on the detail with my Dremel . Usually when I sand a piece I try to safe the patina bot what ever they used really bit into the finish.
Here she is all ready for new pretty clean face , no makeup needed .
Here is her close up the detail is beautiful.
This a is a full view of this beauty. I used Helms Spar varnish because she is going to sit near the front door and used as a phone charging station and a place to put my purse and my keys . So I wanted her finish to last.
I'm not sure why but the bottom shelf folds up and the legs fold in . Does not seem to stable that way. Andias as why?
