How can I make a balance out of foam board?

I made my valances in the master. I used 1" x 4" pieces of wood (nothing expensive) Measure how long you want it and how far you want it to come down on each side. Cut 2 short pieces, one for each end and 1 long piece to go from end to end. I nailed them together. I stapled my foam board on the front, (which could be either side once you've nailed them together) I covered with batting and then my fabric. I used L brackets to mount above the window.
