Transforming a Guest Room on a Budget

When my husband and I bought our condo, we were so excited to transform the guest room into something special for our family and friends. The previous owners had used the room as a spot for random items and their bikes, so we were determined to turn it into a cozy bedroom.
The room isn't super large, so we were determined to make the most of every square inch of the room.
And the first thing on the list was to add some personality to the walls.
We added a wood wall treatment on the main wall in the room to serve as a focal point in the future bedroom. It took about a weekend to get all of the wood up on the wall, the seams caulked, and the nail holes puttied. You can read more about the entire project right here.
Next up, painting the entire room a dark moody color! We settled on a rich navy color, Valspar's "Dutch Licorice". It took 3 coats to get the deep hue we wanted, but we were thrilled with the results.
With the room painted, it was time for the fun part...the decorating! We built a floating credenza for the wall opposite the wood treatment, and also brought in a bed and additional furniture.
Just goes to show that you can transform a space all by yourself. With a few DIY projects, some risks (like the navy paint color), and some patience you can create a room that you love!
