How to Build Board and Batten Shutters
The home owner was wanting to add new shutters to their windows, so we built them some board and batten shutters.
1×6 poplar boards
1×4 poplar boards
compound miter saw
nail gun and nails (1 1/4″, 18 gauge finish nails)
stain (We used MinWax Dark Walnut.)
rubber gloves and cloths for staining
paint sticks to use as spacers between boards

My dad made me shutters similar to these. Except made a Z pattern on the front and since I have some brick around the front door and picture window, I painted them a brick red. I have gray siding and they really stand out. But other look great, mine are non-functioning too. But we don't live near hurricane paths.
