How can I make an island for my kitchen?

I have so much space but no work space for preparing, cooking or even placing stuff on kitchen shelves. I need a pretty decent size island that's simple to make and not to expensive with maybe a couple of shelves underneath.

Hi, lau62!
Two bookshelves, placed back to back, secured with a plywood top would make the perfect island for a kitchen! A couple of boards could be fastened to the bottom to hold the bookshelves together, and casters can be added for mobility. This would create a nice sized area with plenty of storage space! Most home improvement centers will cut the plywood and boards for you for a small fee. I hope this helps!
Get as many cabinets needed for size. Secure together. (Add wheels if desired) Add counter top. Love mine. Matches kitchen perfectly.
