Husband is building a free standing pantry from old doors. He wants to put a base on it but is stumped. the pantry will have a screen door on the front.

Not sure what you mean by "base," but obviously, it needs a bottom to keep out vermin. I'd say start with a rectangle of plywood that just fits inside the upright doors and nail or screw the bottoms of the doors to it. If you want the whole pantry lifted up a bit, you could use old couch legs or blocks of wood (if you want to clean under it) or a rectangle of 2x4s just a little smaller than the bottom rectangle.

    I'm a little jealous!

thanks. I believe he wants to have it up off the floor. I dont know if he wants it be a little decorative or not. but great suggestions.

Plywood, chunk of old solid door, MDF, 2 slabs of 2"x 12" lumber

If you raise it off the floor and what it decorative. Just use molding around the base to make look fancy.
