Hanging Basket Thing-a-ma-jig

Do you ever see something on Hometalk and think to yourself, "Why didn't I think of that?!"
Well I think I have finally had an "I DID think of that!" moment!!!

I am not that tall- ok, ok- I am actually short! I showed you how to make your own hanging baskets to save money here:

While I normally water them while they are hanging, I do like to set them in the rain if we anticipate a shower and I like them off the hanger to fertilize them.

So I either had to drag a small step ladder out or ask my husband to get them down and then do it again when it was time to put them back up.

I kept thinking that there ought to be an easier way! I looked at a couple of garden centers but nothing I saw would do what I wanted.

Enter "light bulb moment"!!

I went plundering in the boat house to see what I could put together.

I found a strong piece of molding and this:

A curtain rod support!!!

Now this gets embarrassingly simple so you can go ahead and have your "why didn't I think of that?" moment.

Simply screw the curtain rod holder into the end of the piece of wood! I pre-drilled the holes for the screws so as to not split the wood.

You use the curved end of the curtain rod holder to "hook" the hook part of you hanging basket!

Then simply guide it onto or out of the hanger you have them hung from. I extend the length of my hanging baskets by placing a chain on the hook and hanging the baskets in a loop of the chain.

How easy is that?! I have been using my hanging basket thing-a-ma-jiggy all summer and I LOVE it!

When I am hanging them back up and they are heavy with water, I do have to support the bottom of the basket with my other hand, but that is because I am a weakling!!

If you are stronger than I am then you may not even have to do that!!!
