Not a good idea. You need rebar into the ground to stabilize your deck properly or you will be just wasting time, energy and $. Good luck & google best ways to stabilize in your freeze zone. You will get great tips.;)Helpful Reply -

You'll need a permit first. You need to consult a carpenter about this project. The codes need to meet specific guild lines.Helpful Reply -

No! It won't be stable and could collapse while in use. If you want to build a deck on blocks, you need a pier foundation. You can buy special concrete blocks that are called pier blocks at any home improvement store. They are pyramid shaped and have notches built in that accept framing members. These don't require the deck to be below frost, but they do need a solid level spot for each pier.Helpful Reply -

Put patio slabs down on new gravel an remember do not dig your property as the soil there is already compacted an by digging you will be excepting water into that area ,also placing a deck you must put spacers against your wall before placing your starting boards .Helpful Reply -

You need to get the building code requirements for your locale. I know that in New England the code requires deep footings, 48" or so. Knowing how cold Michigan gets, I'm sure you'll need something similar.Helpful Reply -
