My parents use a 5 quart ice cream bucket for their beginnings. They put scraps, eggshells, etc. in it and shake it daily. That would be the "turn". They empty it weekly onto a planting area. I don't think you can get any smaller or simpler than that.

Lowe's sells pavers off and on for $1.00 ea. 11 x 11. Buy a batch and build square a few of them high. Start your compost there, where it is easy to turn. Put right on ground. Mix vegetable, fruit scraps tea bags, coffee grounds, egg shells as you use. DON'T forget it is not all about food, you need brown material and green. Grass clippings, leaves, weeds you pull and let dry for a day or so in the sun. To get a good compost you need all 3. Turn every few days especially in the beginning with a pitchfork or rake.

Hi Wayne, here is a video on how to make compost bin. My husband and I make a compost area from fencing. We cut fencing and then made it in a circle and put it together with twist ties. worked great.
