A bird bath can be as simple or as ornate as you desire. My folks used an old hub cap and nailed it to a stump and filled it with water. You can make a shallow concrete one with Portland cement you form with plastic disposable bowls and set them on a prop like cement base or up side down pottery for a base. This is for a fire bowl, but it could easily be adapted to a bird bath, maybe a little shallower. Also, I have seen people use just old cookie sheets. That is all a bird needs to get their bath.
