Use about a cup of plain old Borax in your washload. Towels, sheets and clothing will not smell after a wash. Kitchen towels will lose that grease smell. I was using fabric softener a lot in the past for my bed linens, then they started to smell funny. No more after using Borax in each load along with my regular laundry detergent. Really.
