Add 2-3 cups of white vinegar to tub and run a cycle without clothes. Run a short cycle after that before washing clothes.

If you have a front-load washer do not close the door after your last load. Wipe the door and seal after your last load and keep door open to evaporate water. This prevents mold and probably the reason why you asked about cleaning washer. We have had a front-load for years and have NEVER cleaned the washer.

When my new front load washer was delivered, the delivery man said he has the same model and he uses Tang to clean and get the gunk out of his. He said he runs a wash cycle with only Tang once a month.
